Pre-School Room
The Pre-School room caters for children from 3 to 4 years although depending on spaces and development some children may transition down sooner but this is in conjunction with their key person and parents.
Our Pre-School room is designed to provide free flow learning both inside and outside which enables the children to access the large outdoor environment on a daily basis as well as a superbly resourced inside environment. The Pre-school boasts a large messy conservatory which allows the children to explore lots of arts, crafts and messy play encouraging them to become their own artist.
The room is run by our room leader Terri and deputy room leader Leanne and they are supported by 6 staff on a daily basis, we are able to have 48 children in at any one time, this also takes into consideration the Ofsted ratio which is 1:5 for under 3 year olds and 1:8 for those over 3 years old.
The pre-school room is open planned, spacious and free flow allowing the children to initiate and lead their own play with their peers on a daily basis supported by knowledgeable and qualified staff who will plan individual activities to develop and challenge their learning to the next stage. We also plan new and exciting ideas for the children following our provocation planning to allow the children to develop their awareness of the world around them. Children are encouraged to help with planning and share ideas for activities daily, they are also able choose freely throughout their day, we also celebrate all religious festivals to broaden the children’s knowledge and experiences regarding other cultural beliefs.
Each child is allocated a Key Person who will build a knowledgeable relationship with the child to meet their individual needs and we will meet with parents once a term to look through their development journal and discuss their development.
We offer rolling snack for a period of one hour both morning and afternoon to allow the children to decide when they would like snack as we feel this does not interrupt their play and encourages them to make decisions for themselves.
The children will access the garden area twice a day, we access the garden in all weathers as this allows the children to develop all their senses of the world around them and we are firm believers in 'There is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing'. We are always mindful of weather warnings and this will be discussed on a daily basis to ensure the children's safety and suitability. We therefore ask that you provide your child with a waterproof suit and wellies, these can be kept in setting if you would prefer.
The Pre-School children can access the separate sleep room upstairs if they still need a sleep as this will allow the children to have undisturbed sleep, the room is linked with a baby monitor and staff also carry out regular checks on the room too. We follow the 'back to sleep' guidance and are firm believers of children developing their own sleep routines but self waking and do not wake the children from their sleeps unless this is medically needed.
We ask parents to provide nappies for their child, we will provide fragrance free wipes for your child throughout their day but we ask if there are any speciality wipes needed that these are supplied.
We take the children on outings to the local environment on regular occasions to explore the works around them such as the river, local park and pets at home.
Children have supervised access to the toilet and hand washing facilities and staff monitor the use of this throughout the day and support children where necessary.
